Welcome to Melissa's Home Page!

My family and friends know me as Lisa.  I got my nickname from my great Grandpa Smith.  He didn't like Melissa and kept calling me Mel Lisa.  So that he wouldn't feel bad the entire family called me Lisa.  The neighborhood kids, school, and church teachers also called me Lisa.  When I graduated from high school I decided to get back my given name Melissa.  While in college most new friends and professors called me Melissa.  However, Burlington friends and family could not accept Melissa as my name.  I didn't think it mattered since I never intended to live in my hometown after I graduated from college.  The man I married wanted to begin his law practice in Burlington and even though I wanted to live elsewhere, he won the battle.  Within weeks of moving back home to Burlington, my nickname was my surname.  I was bound and determined to get Melissa back and kept using my name on all legal documents and job opportunities, but Lisa crept back in my life, thanks to family and friends.  I got Melissa back when I took a job with my friend and mentor, Bruce Carlson, Quiote Press and Hearts & Tummies Cookbook Company.  He told me when I was contracted with his publishing company that he couldn't tolerate two Lisa's in the same office.  I eagerly told Bruce that my real name is Melissa and that I would be happy to take it back.  Since 1996 I've used Melissa as my legal and business name, even though family and friends call me Lisa. In 2001, I received another name, WhiteOwl.  WhiteOwl is my Native American name, in which I received after a sweat with friends and my shaman, Medicine Eagle.  You may call me by all three names, Melissa, Lisa, or WhiteOwl.  I learned a long time ago the soul is who we are, not our given name on Mother Earth.  As God says, "I am who I am."

My Values and Beliefs

My values are traditional yet flexible.  I value hardwork, integrity, honesty, patience, intelligence, and compassionate qualities in people.  My favorite verse is the golden rule:  Treat others as you would like to be treated.  Even though my values appear rigid, I value change and the positive ways it can affect our world.  I believe with hard work and hope, all people can change if they have the desire and knowledge how to get help and take steps towards a positive attitude.  I do not desire to retire because my soul purpose is to listen, speak and write until I take my last breath. My philosophy is that retirement is for the after life, not life on Earth. Even though I'm a Christian I do respect, practice, and accept other religious beliefs.  I practice  naturopathic medicines from across the world and beyond.  I value people who try to heal themselves and learn more through naturopathic medicine.  I believe there are cures for diseases and respect those who do not desire to be cured or find the need to follow the Allopathic medicine way.  I don't think people should be discriminated against for any reason, age, sex, color, race, or cultural beliefs. I believe family values and structure is the key element to a more caring and compassionate community, and a prosperous nation.  Even though all people are not treated equal, I believe all people should be treated equal.  I value the environment and do all I can to help save and preserve Mother Earth.  I value creatures big and small and try to assist with helping animal friends.  I value being an American mostly due to the fact that there is freedom of speech and the United States allows us to live out our soul purpose.  I value the difference of opinions and cultural beliefs.  Learning from other people gives me personal growth.  I value my family even though there are difference of opinions and dysfunctional behaviors.  I practice and value unconditional love.

My Goals and Dreams

My dreams are to reach all of my goals in my company LifeCircle Enterprises®.  My
purpose on this earth is to serve as a soul coach for individuals, families, and communities.  I walk my talk each day.
Someday I would like to live in a cabin, along a stream or lake, where I can write and explore life's mysteries.
My goal is to build relationships with people who have similar goals and values.  Please contact me if you do, so we can begin sharing and caring with eachother to make this world a better place for all creatures big and small.
